Holland, MI — Holland Free Health Clinic and Van Doorne Hearing Care have joined efforts to provide hearing aids to the underserved in the Holland/Zeeland community.
The goal is to form a network of local audiologists and dispensers to assist in the effort, audiologist Karen Van Doorne said.
Siemens Hearing Instruments Inc. donated two high quality hearing aids to jump-start the program.
Holland Free Health Clinic will screen applicants based on financial need then refer those who qualify to local audiologists who are willing to donate their time and services to put them on people.
Since the Holland Free Health Clinic is a non-profit, the donations of hearing aids and hearing aid batteries can be written off as a tax donation.
“They sit in drawers or a lot of people just throw them away, so this way, there’s an incentive.” audiologist Karen Van Doorne said.
The Holland Free Health Clinic is located at 99 W. 26th. St., and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for donation drop-offs.
Van Doorne Hearing Care is 391 Garden Ave., and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
